Coworking spaces are popping up all over the place now, and they are becoming more popular too. Their increasing visibility has led many people to learn more about a coworking space definition – that is, what is a coworking space and what can we learn from using one?
What is a coworking space?
A coworking space is a venue where people from many businesses will work in the same area. That area is normally broken into different sections. There will be hot desks for use by anyone who has booked such a space and dedicated desks hired by those who want the same desk each day. There will also be private office spaces, although modern coworking spaces tend to keep the open feel by adding glass walls rather than blocking that space off from the sight of others.
A coworking space is also likely to include some communal spaces for everyone to use. There might be separate coffee break areas on each floor, meeting rooms that can be hired by the hour, and other facilities as well. Some offer outdoor spaces too.
How can working in such a space be beneficial?
Many businesses have discovered the financial benefits of working like this. Fewer desks are often needed, especially where job shares are taken on and part-time workers are often only in the office for a few hours a day.
However, the greatest benefits are perhaps those that are not of the financial kind. For example, if your business relies on making contacts with those in similar industries, networking automatically becomes easier when you are working in the same building. Many coworking spaces do attract those from similar industries. For example, some may have a large creative contingent of users, while others might be involved in insurance or the banking industry.
How would you define your ideal coworking space?
Working among others doesn’t suit everyone. However, if you want a cheaper venue to work in, without the hassle of finding an office with the facilities you require, coworking spaces can be the ideal and affordable solution.
We all have different ideas of how we would like to enjoy our coworking space. For some, the versatility of choosing a different desk each day appeals. Others like to know they can walk into the same office where they can keep everything they need. What would suit you if you worked this way?
