Small businesses encouraged to back England’s World Cup bid

There are 2 weeks to go until the winner is announced in the bid to hold the World Cup in 2018 – and England’s proposal is still very much in with a shout of grabbing the glory.

The bid from England has come in for some criticism from Fifa and the wider football community in recent weeks however and the momentum enjoyed in past months seems to have slowed somewhat. It is for this reason then that the UK’s leading businesswoman has called for the UK’s small businesses to back the bid to the tilt in these final few hours.

Karen Brady, Vice-Chairman at West Ham United and star of BBC’s The Apprentice, believes that from an economic standing, it won’t be just the largest multi-national brands that will benefit from such an opportunity – the UK’s SME’s and Start-Ups would also have the chance to jump onto the ‘feel good’ bandwagon and start planning for the future.

Karen cites a recent poll from energy company nPower where out of 1000 small businesses questioned, one in six felt that a tournament on home soil would result in a significant increase in their sales.

“Against the current backdrop of spending cuts, the positivity demonstrated by the UK’s small business community is one that should be applauded and encouraged. It’s not too late to get behind the England 2018 Bid – we still have time to show FIFA that England would be a brilliant host of the World Cup.”

The influx of media outlets, broadcasters and sponsors into the country who will be seeking a temporary base during the course of the tournament will also be of great benefit to many serviced office space providers too due to the short lease terms and flexibility that they can offer.
