The long awaited redevelopment of Battersea Power Station in South London has finally been granted planning permission by Mayor of London Boris Johnson.

The 40 acre site was purchased by Real Estate Opportunities (REO) in 2006 but it is only now that the plans have been accepted by the relevant authorities.
The Grade II listed station was decommissioned in 1983 and it’s ever deteriorating condition has recently been highlighted as a major concern by English Heritage so this news is much welcomed.
Within REO’s proposals for the site are plans to build numerous shops and leisure facilities along with 16,000 new homes – though the proportion of these earmarked for affordable status has yet to be decided.
A significant amount of office space is also expected to be built on the site providing future tenants with a unique working environment boasting great views of the River Thames and Battersea Park.
The entire project, including the building of two new Northern Line stations to serve the area, isn’t expected to be completed until 2016.
Can any other city in the world offer tenants the chance to rent office space in such unique and eye catching locations? London already boasts office space options in The Gherkin and Canary Wharf for instance so the addition of this office space at Battersea Power Station goes some way to cementing the Capital’s position as a top business destination.
