Businesses in the South East plan to invest to grow

A recent survey from Clydesdale Bank has shown that the South East economy may be about to benefit from an unexpected but welcomed period of investment.

Clydesdale asked businesses from across the South East about their investment plans for the coming year and just over half those questioned in the survey said they intend to reinvest at least 6% of their turnover back into their organisation – covering areas such as office space and staff recruitment. Another 28% of respondents plan to go even further and up that figure to 10% of turnover.

However, the survey also highlights the uncertainty felt by many businesses in the region about the outlook for their business and the economy in general – 28% revealing they still had no plans to invest and are choosing to consolidate again once more.

These results reflect those shared by our clients in our recent Annual Business Confidence Survey where 25% of those asked in the South East felt indifferent about the outlook for the UK economy.
