City of London office space rents on the rise in early 2010

Commercial property agents Cushman and Wakefield have recently announced that rents on prime office space in the City of London have increased 14% in the first 3 months of 2010 when compared to Q4 in 2009. At the same time, the amount of available space in the area has dropped by 7%.

With large corporates signing up to or renewing agreements totalling more than 2.1 million sqft, there are definitive signs now that banks, insurers and blue chips are finally starting to make long term decisions about their UK and European headquarters.

Improvement in demand has been so encouraging in fact that there are hopes many dormant building projects, like 122 Leadenhall Street, may become active once more.

Abbey Business Centres operate two serviced office locations in The City – St Paul’s and The Gherkin – and have office space available for immediate occupation.
