The General Election pays a visit to Abbey Business Centres in Manchester

Not many serviced office providers can claim to have played a part in the run up to the General Election – but our centre on Fountain Street in Central Manchester can!

Former Chancellor and current Tory Shadow Business Secretary Ken Clarke dropped by our centre on Tuesday to take part in a meeting organised by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce to discuss current business issues that are playing a big role in the race for 10 Downing Street.

During his meeting with high profile business leaders, Mr Clarke pleaded for restraint on increasing business taxes when the UK is still emerging from the recession whilst also emphasising the need for a balance between the financial sector and manufacturing to ensure the economy doesn’t become too over reliant on the former.

Angie Robinson, Chief Executive of the GM CoC, was delighted with the day’s events.

“Having been an authority of economic issues for the past 30 years, this was a unique opportunity for business leaders in Manchester to question a possible future Business Secretary. I wish to extend my thanks to Ken Clarke and his team for taking time out of their schedule to answer some of the issues our members currently face.”

Lynne Garlick, Centre Manager for Abbey in Manchester, echoed Angie’s thoughts.

“It was great to play a role in the General Election run in this week. I think this event goes to show how highly regarded our meeting and conference facilities are within the local business community when our venue was chosen for such a crucial event.”
