Scottish SME’s to receive cash boost

19/04/2010

In the midst of election debates and volcanic ash clouds, a bit of good news for the Scottish economy seems to have slipped under the radar somewhat.

A recent announcement by First Minister Alex Salmond looks set to give the small business community a timely boost as just under £5 million of funding has been earmarked to generate 352 potential new business start-ups.

The money, which will be distributed via the Scottish Enterprise Project, will assist budding entrepreneurs with extensive training before they ‘go it alone’ in the hope that the survival rates of the start-ups will be considerably higher than the national average – which has suffered extensively during the recession.

Salmond commented that the success of these new companies was vital to the Scottish economy.

“During these challenging economic times, it is important these SME’s realise their potential, seize on opportunities and contribute to Scotland’s sustainable economic growth. We at the Scottish government are leveraging all our available powers to support initiatives like this to push our economy back into the black.”
