North West business owners are getting younger

17/12/2010

With the controversial rise in university tuition fees recently ratified in parliament and the job market swelling up under the pressure of an ever expanding pool of candidates, the future career path for today’s younger generation has become increasingly treacherous.

It will come as no surprise to hear then that many are looking to control their own destiny by setting up their own businesses and avoiding the minefields of student demos and long queues at the job centre.

Data from insurance broker Simply Business has shown that the average age of a UK small business owner has fallen year on year since 2007 with the North West of England seeing some of the most significant changes.

Whilst the proportion of small business owners aged 18-25 has risen 4% nationally, in the North West the figure stands at 9% - an inspiring result considering the current economic climate and a testament to the creative and can do attitude of youngsters in the region.

I suppose then that we shouldn’t be at all surprised to potentially witness a 30 something self made millionaire from Accrington replacing Lord Sugar on The Apprentice in 5 years time and uttering the show’s now infamous catchphrase in a very un-cockney accent.

For entrepreneurs looking for their first business premises, serviced offices provide the perfect answer. No CAPEX is required and you have the ability to change your office space as business circumstances dictate.

On top of that, internet, telephone and utility services are already in place before you move ensuring you can get straight down to business with the least amount of fuss.
